We had the chance to work with our specialized peers on the first day of school. During this time, we presented the topics we chose, along with related backgrounds. Afterward, Andreas provided feedback, and we shared our thoughts about the topics.
It was interesting to find the topic which is based on museums. Because i thought people these days dosent visit the museums as much as before. since the techology advanced, people could get lot of information from internet. also the informations that people could adopted form the museum. To me, using interactive technology to engage children seemed effective, as I had a lot of fun participating in an exhibition that utilized interactive technology (even though I am not a child!). Additionally, the case study he researched was inspiring for me as well, since i also utilize interactive technology.
I found the way he presented the problem-solution effective. It was interesting that he approached VR technology, which is already visually advanced, from a different perspective, namely an auditory perspective. Of course, it is unclear whether current VR machines have high-quality microphones and headsets, but I think that achieving good sound quality is a technical challenge, especially considering that the target audience is music professionals. Furthermore, he seemed very clear about what he wanted to do for the final project. Although I understand that the topic is not completely set, I was personally excited about the results, as I am interested in music.
Before deciding on a topic, I was worried about having to read many books in the future. The main reason was that I found reading books to be tedious and boring. Then the idea popped into my mind, "What if I decide to make this my topic?" I am of the age group known as Gen Z. However, not all Gen Zers think like me. Therefore, since I could not determine the exact reasons why Gen Zers do not read books frequently, I observed my friends around me. I found that people of my age group prefer to obtain information through video content like social media rather than reading books. Is it because videos are more intuitive than reading text? Or is it because digital text does not move and does not have music like videos?
By reading each book, I have found some reasons why Gen Z tends to obtain information through video content. They have been exposed to videos since childhood, due to the development of video content, and it is natural for them to be accustomed to videos. Short-form video content, which has become a culture beyond just a trend in recent years, also stimulates Gen Z's interest because it encourages their participation.
The first thing that came to mind was interactive design. This is a representative way of creating results through audience participation, with the characteristic that the results vary depending on various inputs. Back in the day when I visited the "Future World" exhibition at the ArtScience Museum, I easily noticed that most of the visitors were young. If we use interactive design to change the text, wouldn't Gen Z be interested in reading it and having an interest in it.
Base on the findings, i showed some background context into my research area by referencing some of readings and concepts. I also presented the project that could be utilized in my future work, which i have done in the level 2.
Presenting in front of unfamiliar friends was nerve-wracking in many ways, but I tried my best to convey my opinions. I thought the topic I chose was quite ambiguous, but after talking with Andreas, I realized that more specific topic setting was needed. He said it was natural and that we could make decisions step by step in the future. He also asked me to define 'digital text' since it plays various roles these days due to technological developments.
What is digital text? It is necessary to directly check and investigate what it does and how it has been used, not just vaguely knowing about it. Through this presentation, I felt that I had the opportunity to receive feedback through perspectives that I had not considered before, which could further develop me.
