For week 12, I conducted a class where each atelier member presented their work. This class provided a detailed insight into their work processes, serving as examples for me. Observing their clear goal-setting and diligently conducted experiments was motivating and helped me focus more on my upcoming tasks.
After some time, upon revisiting my previous design layout, I noticed that the excessive use of large text and minimal negative space had a negative impact on readability. Recognizing these issues, I revisited the Swiss design mood board to refresh my perspective on layout design. With the aim of creating a more advanced design, I generated three design sketches.
I have revised the design by shifting the focus away from the note concept and emphasizing the hyperlink design. This idea originated from the concept of aggregating hyperlinks and providing a condensed view of the content contained in the linked sites.
The goal was to use accent colors to design user hyperlinks, facilitating easy navigation. I remained true to the grid-based Swiss design. The text content was divided into three parts: content, links, and images. This division aimed to allow users to focus on the text without distractions from other elements when reading.
In the previous designs, various lines were prominently used, so for the third design, I opted for a simpler approach. Following the grid system, I created the design layout, minimizing the use of lines while maintaining a clear structure. Hyperlinks were differentiated by color to allow users to easily identify their positions.
The first design, while attempting to create sections by grouping hyperlinks, felt messy due to the disproportionate weight of this part in the overall design. The second design highlighted the potential of using accent colors to capture the user's attention effectively. Based on these insights, the third design sketch was created. Through this process, I realized that evaluating the strengths and weaknesses of my previous design processes is crucial for advancing my future designs. Witnessing the gradual improvement in my designs brought me a great sense of satisfaction and pride. Moreover, I recognized that by continuously exploring playful ideas, even attempts that might not align with the current design theme could provide valuable lessons in mastering layout elements.
